About this listen

THE FIELDS OF DEATH is the epic final novel in Simon Scarrow's bestselling Wellington and Napoleon Quartet. Essential reading for fans of Bernard Cornwell.

1809. Viscount Wellington and Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte have made their mark as military commanders. Lifelong enemies, they both believe their armies are strong enough to destroy any rival. But in war victory can never be certain.

While Wellington's success continues in Spain, Napoleon feels the sting of failure. Yet despite a disastrous Russian campaign and humiliating defeat at Leipzig, he persists in fighting on.

With Napoleon's power waning, the newly titled Duke of Wellington is perfectly placed to crush the tyrant. But his enemy refuses to surrender, and so the two giants must face a final reckoning on the bloody battlefield of Waterloo...

Simon Scarrow will go down as one of the all-time best writers of historical novels and history based fiction. This series on Napoleon and Wellington is no exception. Well researched and written, this book delivers an interesting and entertaining insight into the past.

With that said, even the best book can only become an enjoyable audio book with the appropriate delivery by a skilled narrator.

But Jonathan Keeble is more than just a narrator; his delivery of this entire series proves him to be an outstanding voice actor and his delivery of Scarrow's work turns great books into great stories.

Another great historical book by Scarrow

Incredible. The only way in which I could have enjoyed the recordings of Simon Scarrow's four books "The Wellington and Napoleon Quartet". Covering 1795 to 1815 any more would be if knew nothing of the characters and events covered. As it is I did and it in no way detracted from pleasure of listening to the authors dramatisation of the historical facts and the theater of the mind constructed by Jonathan Keeble's narration is second to none.
PLEASE do not listen to this book..... Until you have listened to the first titled "The Generals" which is the first of the quartet or you will miss the evolution of the two main characters from their early childhood through to the climax in this, the last of the four books.
I have a feeling that I will listen to this quartet of books again somewhere further down the road

Stunning!

That is what history is made of. Thank you very much for this series. And to be honest, a book that ends with the word „Peace“, is always a good book!
