'Fans of escape rooms, murder mysteries, and soapy reality TV: pick this up! I loved it!' Kendare Blake, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Three Dark Crowns
An unforgettable YA murder mystery set in an escape-room themed game show by Marissa Meyer, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Lunar Chronicles, and Tamara Moss, rising star and acclaimed author of the Lintang series.
Six months ago, season four of the hugely popular reality TV show The Escape Game ended in horror when contestant Alicia Angelos was found murdered in the escape room on set. Now season five is underway, and new contestants are ready to put their skills to the test solving the show's trickiest escape rooms. There's Adi, the cryptographer; Carter, the math whiz influencer; Beck, the escape room enthusiast and wannabe game master, and . . . Sierra Angelos, the girl who got away with her sister's murder. Or so everyone believes. But Sierra's not just here to win. She's here for justice . . . and revenge.
As the contestants progress through the rounds, they begin uncovering clues that hint at the identity of Alicia's true killer: the stakes aren't just high in this competition, they're deadly. If these teens want to escape, win and survive, they must solve the biggest mystery of all: who killed Alicia Angelos?
A twisty thrill-ride, filled with sabotage, betrayal, and puzzles to die for. Perfect for fans of One of Us is Lying and The Inheritance Games.

Unfortunately, then it just dragged. The story became increasingly far-fetched, and predictable. Considering it was a puzzle solving plot, there were precious few puzzles and those there were were frankly uninteresting. By the end I found it implausible and that pulled me right out of the experience.
It's a shame, because the central idea is excellent and exactly the sort of thriller I usually enjoy. Could easily have been a 5-star listen for me, especially given the author.
As it is, I'm giving it 2 stars. A brilliant premise, engaging start then fizzled out.
Should have been great for me but fell flat
