The phone rings. It's your daughter. She's been dead for four months. So begins East Texas police dispatcher Ian Hunt's fight to get his daughter back. The call is cut off by the man who snatched her from her bedroom seven years ago, and a basic description of the kidnapper is all Ian has to go on.

1.2x speed will get you through the odd narration but it is a really good story and I recommend it

Bear with the narrator, it’s worth it

At first I thought the narrator was a bit hammy but soon got used to it and it was great

Great rollicking ride of a crime novel which seems split between genres. The low life characters and the story remind me of Carl Hiasen or Elmore Leonard but it doesn’t have the same humour. Despite this , it’s lifted by the dead pan narrator who does dumb redneck very well and hints at irony between the lines.

Dead pan crime
