A runewitch on the run has only one option left: join forces with the sarcastic, unpleasantly gorgeous necromancer she loathes

The man Thraga loved is dead, and her future is in shambles. When she's sentenced to the gallows for killing her lover's murderers, it's a relief more than anything… until, the night before her execution, a necromancer is thrown into her cell.

Escaping with him is her only chance to bring Lark back to life—and also the start of all her troubles.

Because her new almost-ally is not just any man returned from death. Fire mage, rogue prince, and son of the man who killed her mother, sharp-tongued Durlain Averre is everything Thraga hates. Worse, he won't revive her lover unless she joins him on a mission of his own first, using her forbidden rune magic to free his sister from the dungeons of an enemy king.

But their quest turns into a deadly chase when Thraga's violent past catches up with her. And as the net of court intrigue and old fears closes around them, she begins to find out Lark was not at all the man she thought he was…

And neither is Durlain.

I bought this in a rush to listen on a flight and what a delightful surprise that I'd not used a credit on a dud. It was brilliant with deliciously winding plot threads and untold stories of the characters. The narrator did a really excellent job on it. Brava to her! I hope she'll be used for all the rest. Only thing wrong with this is that the sequel isn't up on Audible yet.

Loved this book and the narration!

This was excellent, the character deveopment of Theaga was just excellent, excelled by Derlain reminding her of her own power. She is a survivior in every way, the romance was slow burn, the betrayal, and lies and love. The sarcastic humour and the raport between them. Chefs Kiss. she left it on a cliffhanger though, I guess we wait till the next installment, cant wait to see who underestimates her next.

Thraga!!

Listen was the operative word here. The reader - Grace Gray - took a good story and breathed passionate and gripping life into it. What a performance! I cannot wait to listen to the sequel - let’s hope it’s Grace Gray !

Great listen

So I kinda spoilt the ending for myself by looking at what other people said but I was still shocked at the cliffhanger! Very cool story and world building. A bit slow in the beginning and maybe a bit annoying, but realising that the MFC has OCD and anxiety made her thoughts and actions make a lot more sense. Got a bit confused with character (listing) at points but yeah solid 8/10.

Cliffhanger much??
