The narrator is good and has a good range of accents although children is not his best.

The story… the actual investigation is good and I enjoyed it. But the relationships both with work colleagues and family is over done. To the point I was cringing at how over the top it is. Be prepared for a lot of talk of bonds and pride in his daughter and the amazingly perfect wife. No one is perfect the author seems to have forgotten that.

I’m really torn on this one.

In general i liked this book. However there are far too many Americanisms for a series of novels set in the UK, about a British police man, written by a British author.

I’ve feel like I’ve read most the book in this genre of ‘airport’ easy read police detective stories. I can honestly say this is very much above average. Honestly, it’s still simple fairly predictable murderers and every other trope of the genre - but done much better than the other swathes out there. It’s nice hearing a book like this that’s actually well written, with characters that are faceted and likeable. The dialogue actually resembles how people might talk, the ‘baddy police boss ex husband’ for once has depth and redeeming qualities. Will be continuing with this series for sure! Oh and I must also shout out the narration! For once, regional accents that aren’t painful!!!!
