About this listen

The first three novels in the critically acclaimed DS Jack Townsend series, written by the author of the international best-selling Sam Pope series...

The thrills being with THE DEAD OF NIGHT, as DS Townsend arrives in Buckinghamshire after relocating from Merseyside with his family. Thrust into the Thames Valley Police's Specialist Crime Unit, he finds himself investigating the murder of a young woman. But when a second body is found, Townsend and the SCU realise they are hunting a serial killer.

DON'T SAY A WORD finds Townsend and the SCU investigating a seemingly obvious overdose. But when the victim is found to be missing his tongue, they soon realise the murder was staged as a suicide. And the killer has a motive and a kill list that they are hellbent on completing.

And lastly, NO JUDGE, NO JURY sees the SCU face their most harrowing case yet. A local doctor is murdered in cold blood. Soon after, a threat arrives that the execution will be uploaded to the internet for the world to see. And with no way to stop it, and with the promise of more executions to follow, Townsend and the team face a race against time to save the lives of those who are marked for death.

What a truly PHENOMENAL series of books .. Incredible storylines , realistic characters and I have to say amazing narration .. I’m really hoping there will be more box sets coming up in this series as that’s my only way of affording them.. if I could give 30 stars I Would .. brilliant books

I was looking forward to reading the series but was disappointed, the first book sounded very much like the last one. There were also a lot of repeat paras saying pretty much the same thing. What disappointed me the most was the narration. I had no problem with the various accents but the narrator seemed to be struggling with his diction, I thought he also seemed to race through some parts of a sentence then slow down. Sorry to say I didn’t really enjoy these books.

Books 1-3 all very similar storylines

These are great stories with an excellent range of characters. I found the narrator very difficult to listen to. Certain phrases were mumbled together. I looked up Lee Beddow and found he is a well known and well respected audio book narrator. I tried speeding up the reading and slowing it down. It made no difference to my listening experience.
The stories are really good with an accurate portrayal of High Wycombe and the surrounding area. Characters are well researched and ring very true.
Shame I found it so difficult to listen to.

Great book spoilt by narrators diction.

I had just finished the Sam Pope series, which I thoroughly enjoyed, when I was delighted to discover that Jack Townsend have been given his own spinoff series. Just listened to the first three and can’t wait to find out if there’s more. Original stories, great characterisation and really good performance. I always love listening to a serial killer story whilst walking in the bright sunshine with my dog.

Another great series from Robert Enright
