About this listen

These pilgrims are pious...and they’re taking no prisoners!

Since giving up the booze—bar a small hiccup here and there—ex-Ministry of Witches Detective Elise Liddell hasn’t had much call to hang out in bars. So, imagine her surprise when the generally antagonistic landlord of the Pig and Pepper calls on her for assistance. It seems Charles Lynch’s regulars are being scared away by mysterious specters. It’s hitting him where it hurts: right in the pocket.

Elise agrees to help. After all, the pub is her local, and she isn’t generally spooked by the paranormal. However, the apparitions turn out to be monks. Malevolent monks! Elise will need to rely on her friends, her wiles, and all her resources if she’s going to unravel this curiosity of a mystery!

Join Elise and her zany sidekicks—Minsk the white rabbit, the ghosts of Wizard Dodo and her partner DC Ezra Izax, Wootton the office manager, Hattie Dashery, Rich the Snitch, and ex-boss Monkton Wyld—in the fourth thrilling installment of the Wonderland Detective Agency.

Fans of Jeannie Wycherley’s best-selling Wonky Inn books—as well as lovers of urban fantasy, cozy paranormal murder mysteries, witches and wizards, and gaslamp fiction—will adore this series.

These books just get better and better, each one is a great magical mystery, this one is no exception, it even introduces a cult and undercover work, I loved it, I love ALL these books, I cannot wait for book five to be released, In fact, I may have to actually read it myself, although that does spoil some of the fun when a narrator is as great as Joanna Lee. I'm in two minds but you should not be in two minds at all over whether to buy this, and all of the others, they are such great fun, go for it.

Better and better

I enjoyed this book. This book was slightly different from the rest of the book in the series so far, in the fact that we didn't learn anything more about the long running mystery. This means it works as a standalone but then you will miss out on a great and intriguing series that I have fallen in love with. I love the characters, Elise is a great main character, capable of doing anything even going undercover on her own in the baddies lair. Although she might struggle to buy wands. Of course the usual back up team are a delight from Snitch who has his fingers in every shady deal or knows someone who can (I think he is my favourite character) to the grumpy ghost of Dodo who has taken over the office of the detective agency, to name just a few. All are entertaining and add a little something to the investigation be it help, chuckles or complaints. As for the mystery, I was so swept up in the investigation and what was going on, that I had no clue who was responsible and was really surprised with the ending. I hope I don't have to wait long for the next audio book.

After attending a séance, Elise is called in by her ex colleague from the Ministry of Witches to help with the case, when the performer is found dead. While discussing the case with detective Wilder at the Pig and Pepper they get caught up in an incident with Monks, who threaten people to clean up there ways or else. When another famous persons body is discovered, Elise is convinced the cases are connected. To find the clues and stop the Monks, Elise will have to look into the past, with help from her ghostly friends but going undercover she will have to do alone. Will she survive?

I like the narrator. She does such a good job that you can't help but get sucked into the story and get swept up on the ride too.
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
