Dylan was six when The End came, back in 2018; when the electricity went off for good, and the 'normal' twenty-first century world he knew disappeared. Now he's 14 and he and his mam have survived in their isolated hilltop house above the village of Nebo in north-west Wales. Despite their close relationship, each has their own secrets, thoughts and memories, when emerge as, in turn, they write in a found notebook - the Blue Book of Nebo.

Brilliant, that is the best way I can describe the book. I read an article online about the best children's books for adults and this was included. Immediately I bought it and listened. Wow what an enjoyable experience. This is so well written and like so many young adult books it is better than so many adult books. The author is from North Wales and she captures the language tonality really well. Please don't be put off by this because the story is universal and incredibly well written and performed. Highly recommend this one.

A RARE AUTHOR THAT CAN ACTUALLY NARRATE THEIR WORK

As a half Welsh mum of a 14 year old son, I enjoyed this story at many different levels, but it wasn't always easy listening and there were a few times I had to stop to go find a tissue! My son is hoping to listen next and it will be interesting to get his take on this beautifully crafted narrative.

Beautiful and deeply thought provoking

This is post-apocalyptic, but not sci-fi and aliens- it reads like a love song to the landscape of Wales. Stripped of others, the characters look backwards to the time before ‘the end’ and compare it with their new reality. A novel about nature, survival, morality and what is really important in life.

Arresting sense of place

This is my first book by this author, and what a find! I absolutely loved it. It felt a lot like what I imagined could have been when covid hit, had virtually no one survived - the sort of reality I imagined when I wondered how bad things MIGHT get, filled with the beauty of returning nature, and finding ourselves, combined with horror and trauma. But don’t worry- there is very little to scare you away from this book, though it can be raw and painful in places. I should note, as it’s a YA book, that I’m far past being a young adult. And I enjoyed it very much. I loved that the author read it herself. She clearly intimately felt the story and the characters, and brought them to life amazingly. Her gorgeous Welsh accent and Welsh words flowed like a river of poetry over places, and really brought out the beauty and Welshness of the story. Just gorgeous.

A gorgeous story
