About this listen

The secrets of creative thinking by a lecturer at the world-famous St. Martin's College of Art who has spent a lifetime researching innovative thinkers.

A scuba-diving company faces bankruptcy because sharks have infested the area. Solution? Open the world's first extreme diving school.

The Art of Creative Thinking reveals how we can transform ourselves, our businesses, and our society through a deeper understanding of human creativity. Rod Judkins, of the world-famous St. Martin's College of Art, has studied successful creative thinkers from every walk of life throughout history. Drawing on an extraordinary range of reference points - from the Dada manifesto to Nobel Prize-winning economists, from Andy Warhol's studio to Einstein's desk - he distills a lifetime's expertise into a succinct, surprising book that will inspire you to think more confidently and creatively.

You'll realise why you should be happy when your train is cancelled; meet the most successful class in educational history (in which every single student won a Nobel prize); discover why graphic nudity during public speaking can be both a hindrance and surprisingly persuasive; and learn why, in the 21st century, it's technically illegal to be as good as Michelangelo.

Be stubborn about compromise. Plan to have more accidents. Be mature enough to be childish. Contradict yourself more often. Discover the art of creative thinking.

Really enjoyed this and it has made me realise how there is no such thing as a 'natural born talent' but determination, attitude and perseverance. Would recommend to anyone and everyone who needs inspiration to start anything and everything.

It is like a more accessible Oblique Strategies with a few more bells and whistles.
Read/listen to it from cover to cover, open a random page/stick it on shuffle, follow the suggested chapters down there rabbit hole. It doesn't matter which way you prefer to ingest the bitesize lessons.
It's full of contradictions, but that's OK. If one way doesn't work for you, maybe the opposite approach will help.
I'll be keeping this on my device and buying the book for easy access whenever it is needed.

lots of views which challenge the conventional wisdom. these can and should be tested out. I personally liked the 'if it's not broke - break it!' idea. looking forward to trying this in my work and seeing the impact

Admittedly I listened to the book over 18months. life took my attention away, but let me assure you, for me, there had never been a book that has me saying "Yes!" to every single sentence, chapter, quote ect. Amazing to find that I am indeed not only a creative, but a badass creative who gave up (Just a little bit).

A must read for ANYONE, not matter your walk of life. This book will ground you & set you free in the knowledge that you are doing ok, like the greatest artists that lived & continue too, but now your gonna do it... better. And better. And better still.

After all, we are curious & connected... live it. love it.
