About this listen

The highly anticipated prequel to the New York Times best-selling Summoner trilogy.

Arcturus is just an orphaned stable boy when he accidentally summons a demon. As Hominum's first common summoner, he becomes the key to a secret that the powerful nobility would do anything to keep hidden.

He is immediately whisked away to Vocans Academy, where the lost arts of summoning, spell craft and demonology are taught to the noble children of the Empire. In no time Arcturus finds himself surrounded by enemies as noble teachers and students question his right to be there.

But before he can even attempt to make friends, his life is turned upside down once again, for the Empire is in turmoil. Rebellion is simmering among the masses, and it will not be long before it boils over. Arcturus must choose a side...or watch the Empire crumble.

Set before the events of Summoner: The Novice, this is the perfect introduction to the Summoner series.

I have now read/listened to all four books, on this occasion I read/listened to them in order. However, if you wanted to you could read the Prequel 1st, then books 1, 2 & 3. The correct order is The Novice, The Inquisitions, The Battlemage then the prequel, The Outcast. Although you can read the Outcast 1st, its written to be read last, the reason i think is that although it explains lots, there is also lots of twists, which you may not get if you read it 1st.

Now, the books, fantastic characters, super story line and great twists. I read/listened to all four books in four weeks. I found the story line to be a mix of Harry Potter, meets Lord of the Rings, meets Game of Thrones.

The writer has spent a lot of time, making sure that the story flows. This along with the twists and fantastic characters, makes them a must read.

Fantastic Characters, Super Story

Builds deeper on the characters and also sets the tone for some of the villains in the future. Great addition and ties in nicely

Rounds off the series very nicely

The book is written in a simple style and is best described as a mix of Harry Potter and the lord of the rings with the main character learning magic and demonology at a school so that one day he can fight orcs in the army. Starting with this prequel is an amazing way to get into the series which I believe to be a hidden gem - nestled right in between the most prolific fantasy novel series.

Nostalgic

Audible has used the narrator from the first book as it keeps everything consistent. As mentioned previously, the depth and range for character voicing is amazing and well paced and again consistent making the book engaging and enjoyable. Highly recommend!

Great Prequel!
