Jake Martinez has spent his life escaping into fantasy—into dice, character sheets, and stories where heroes rise, monsters fall, and the rules make sense.

But when a mysterious book tears open reality itself, Jake doesn't just enter another world.

He becomes part of it.

Aethermoor is alive with mana. Violet skies burn above twin moons. Forests breathe. Shadows hunt. And power answers only those brave enough—or desperate enough—to claim it.

Jake wakes in this new world with something impossible inside him: raw magic that answers to his will. No staff. No spellbook. No training. Just instinct and the dangerous pull of a force older than kingdoms.

The people of Aethermoor call it a Gift.

Others will call it a weapon.

Bandits are only the beginning. Creatures of living shadow stalk the wilds. Ancient ruins whisper of sealed catastrophes. And far beyond the horizon, something has begun to stir—something that recognizes Jake in ways he does not yet understand.

He wanted adventure.

He wanted meaning.

Now he must survive a world where strength is measured in steel and sorcery… and every choice carries a cost.

Because in Aethermoor, there are no character sheets. No guaranteed victories. No second chances.

Only the path of the Spellblade—where magic and blade become one… or break the one who dares to wield them.

Great audiobook. The best character is Martinez, he as awesome and ended up buying a real dragon in the end. I can’t wait for audio 2 of this story to see what he does with the dragon. Great story line in the mystical world. Definitely 5 star it was an audio right up my alley.

I really enjoyed this. The story follows a 23-year-old college dropout working part-time at a gaming store whose favorite part of the week is playing Dungeons & Dragons with his friends. After discovering a mysterious book hidden in a shipment, he’s suddenly pulled into the magical world of Aethermoor and realizes he has the same powers as his D&D character.

I liked watching him slowly grow stronger as he learns magic, combat, and what it truly means to be a spellblade. The worldbuilding was one of my favorite parts, especially learning that he’s the first spellblade in nearly 300 years and may be the key to stopping an ancient dragon as old seals begin to weaken. The audiobook kept me engaged throughout, and while there were a few heavier explanation moments, it still felt like a really fun start to the series. If you enjoy portal fantasy, magic systems, and progression-style adventures, this is definitely worth checking out.

This audiobook was quite good and I was glad I could listen to it versus read since it was long. The beginning was kind of dull but it got good toward the middle and great in the end.

SpellBlade 1: Portal to Aethermoor was a really fun listen and an easy audiobook to get pulled into. The story moves at a good pace and does a great job blending fantasy, magic, action, and adventure without feeling overly complicated. The worldbuilding was interesting enough to keep me invested while still being easy to follow.

I especially enjoyed the magic system and the progression elements throughout the story. The characters were entertaining, and the main character’s journey kept me wanting to continue listening. It had the kind of immersive fantasy atmosphere that makes long listening sessions easy.

The narrator also did a great job bringing the characters and world to life. Overall, this was an enjoyable fantasy audiobook and a strong start to the series for anyone who likes portal fantasy, magic, and adventure stories.
