About this listen

What happens when someone's too scared to speak?

Ex-police officer Sebastian Clifford had decided to limit his work as a private investigator, until Detective Constable Bird, aka Birdie, asks for his help.

Twelve months ago a young girl was abandoned on the streets of Market Harborough in shocking circumstances. Since then the child has barely spoken. With the police unable to trace her identity, they've given up.The social services team in charge of the case worry that the child has an intellectual disability, but Birdie and her aunt – who’s fostering the little girl – disagree. They believe she’s gifted and intelligent, but something bad happened and she’s living in constant fear.

Clifford trusts Birdie’s instinct, and together they work to find out who the girl is so she can be freed from the past. But as secrets are uncovered, the pair realise it's not just the child who’s in danger....

Speak No Evil is the second in the Detective Sebastian Clifford series. Perfect for fans of Faith Martin, Matt Brolly and Joy Ellis.

I wish the narrator did his research before taking this book on and at least have recognised that DCI Walker from the Cavendish & Walker series did not have a Geordie accent but a Brummie one, this made it hard to relate to her in this book especially after a fatastic series with the other one. Luckily JONATHAN changed it for book 3. The other thing that bugs me about this series is the amount of time Clifford has in the police station and actually taking the lead on the cases as if he's a serving officer. He wouldn't be allowed to do that. Make it realistic please Sally!

intriguing storyline, I like the two main characters, Birdy and Seb, this is the second book I've listened to in this series. My only gripe is that the male narrator, being an older man struggles with female voices, with them all sounding like David Walliams characters! or like the head mistress in St Trinians! it's not just this narrator, most older male narrators do too. If you can get past this, it has a clever storyline, sensitively covering a distressing story.

Overall rather good

Brilliant chemistry between Clifford and Birdy. Good story, well written & narrated. Funny things happen but in a believable way.
I've already downloaded the next book and pre ordered the next.

Love the chemistry.

Really enjoyed this story!
Love Johnathan Keebles voice, except when he does a child’s. Got to be the worst impression of younger people I have heard, and yet all his other character voices are great! Plus he has got a beautiful reading voice. That’s my only criticism.

Great story
