A haunting crime novel of two sisters - one has vanished, the other is behind bars....

Snow Delaney was born a generation and a world away from her sister, Agnes.

Until recently, neither even knew of the other's existence. They came together only for the reading of their father's will - when Snow discovered, to her horror, that she was not the sole beneficiary of his large estate.

Now Snow is in prison and Agnes is missing, disappeared in the eerie red dust that blanketed Sydney from dawn on September 23, 2009.

With no other family left, Snow turns to crime journalist Jack Fawcett, protesting her innocence in a series of defiant letters from prison. Has she been unfairly judged? Or will Jack's own research reveal a story even more shocking than the one Snow wants to tell?

I got invested in listening to these books from 3 of the others that the author wrote. it doesn't have as many twists and turns but its not a bad listen.

Not bad.

At first I thought this was a comedy. That’s strange now in the light of the full story but at first the narrator was flippant and somewhat casual.
As the chapters unfolded, she shared a disturbing story of child neglect and horror.
Incredibly written with the kind of attention to detail that makes the whole thing feel like a non-fiction report.

Unique tale, hard to listen to.

I really became invested in the main character - Snow. I thought the story original and it developed well and it certainly held my interest. Disappointingly, the ending was the most unsatisfactory of any book I’ve read with little if any resolutions. The reader is left with so many unsolved questions someone serving a long sentence although she appears to have behaved in the best way she could, a missing character, a buried character -all with no idea what happened to them.

Unsatisfactory ending

This was an unusual story, which for a seasoned consumer of novels was difficult to predict. I’ve noticed that this writer often creates rather unlikeable main characters, specially the female ones, which are not directly presented as villains. The main character Snow, had a horrid and cold mother and grew up to be one herself. The reader added a particularly strident voice to her, making her even more chilling. There is a time jump of several years, and It might have helped to know a little more about how she went from her early days as an enthusiastic and innocent nurse to such a heartless and perverse abuser.
The ending lacked resolution, but I still felt the novel deserved 4 stars as it was well written and held my attention throughout.

Surprising!

I mean it's horrible, but so well told and unfolds unexpectedly and kept me shocked throughout without feeling disbelief. can't believe it was in the included bit. for some reason a horrible story with Australian accents really spooks me out, it is something to do with the juxtaposition of the chilled out or kind of matter of fact way stuff is delivered whilst the content is grim. recommend for non squeamish (it's not really graphic but does mention some nasty things) thriller / psychological thriller / day in the mind of a baddy mood listen.

what a treat!
