About this listen

"The path to paradise begins in hell.” (Dante Alighieri)

On a small path leading to nowhere sits a looming cathedral, once-abandoned, now hosting the most dangerous of pleasures.

And Stone Brice is the most dangerous of all: Lust. A former acrobat, Stone’s life was changed dramatically after an accident, and now he runs The Carnal Tower, a place where people can go to have their deepest and sometimes darkest fantasies realized.

Stone is a man who is rarely taken by surprise, so when he meets the artist, August Ashley, he doesn’t expect to trip and fall at his feet—literally. But there’s something about the quiet stranger in the park that Stone wants to take apart, and that feeling only gets worse the more Stone gets to know him.

Stone is well aware he can’t mix business and pleasure, but when August comes to him with a proposal for a trade—seven paintings for seven nights with Lust—he can’t say no. Not when it means he’ll be able to have August exactly the way he wants him—even if it’s just for a week.

Stone has every plan to strip August down to his very soul, but the longer the week goes on, the more Stone comes to realize that August might very well be his undoing.

Shades of Lust is the first book in a new series. It features a bi-awakening, high heat, low angst, and the human embodiment of a seven deadly sin whose sole purpose is to make sure his client never forgets their week at The Carnal Tower. Each book in the series can stand on their own, and all contain no cheating, and a happily ever after.

The sun and the sinner, lust at it's core, an artist's inspiration made whole.

This story is unique, vivid and passionate. It is dynamic and engaging and as an artist it's quirky and inspiring! I want to go paint some sinful fallen angels myself!

I loved the diverse representation of various disabilities. I especially loved Stone and who he is. He has embraced the fact that he lost his legs in an accident. He is no longer troubled by it or at least that is not the main focus of his story. I like that he was a man who fell in love and just happened to be an amputee. I hope the other Sin's stories might follow a similar way but from introductions there is so much that could happen and each man has their own past and story, I can't wait for more.

I found August so endearing. His limited filter, his passion and artistic eye, his cute mannerisms, he was the perfect counter point for Lust and the perfect match for Stone. I hope we'll see more of August as he gets to know the other Sins for his paintings!!

wicked, captivating, sinful!

The characters in this book have depth and personalities that you can believe. The seven sins all seem to be tortured souls in one way or another, hiding away in the Carnal Tower,
Stone Brice, the owner of The Carnal Tower and Lust, has a past that haunts him, and because of it feels that he's not relationship material. That was until he met August.

August is another person hiding away from life, highly anxious and a virgin at 43. Life passes him by until his dog knocks Stone over in the park. His life changes for the better.

The story is so bizarre, but at the same time, very believable. I love that everyone has such a backstory. You can imagine this building and what's going on inside there.

Kirt Graves did an excellent job narrating this book. However, I did speed up to 1.15 on audible. Clear and concise, a great listen.

E.M. Lindsey wows me with another amazing book and not only know do they how to captivate my attention the entire book, but they know how to tug on my heartstrings the entire time, too. Sure, I was expecting “Shades of Lust” to be all about pleasure and pleasuring, but it was so much more. The story features the founder and creator of “The Carnal Tower”, and we are not talking about Dante Alighieri here, no, just Stone Brice. Stone’s childhood and life had not been the easiest when he finally breaks away, has a decent two-year run with his new life before it all comes crashing down around him. He bounces back to start a new life, gets an education and earns a PHD, then comes up with a plan to put life into an abandoned cathedral and turn it into a brothel featuring the seven deadly sins. I loved the idea and the concept of this, the fallen angels, the sins and who and what they are all about, I hope each sin, I mean a person, gets their own story. Stone takes a tumble while jogging in the park and he meets the man who will forever change his life in a way that he thought he would never want. August Ashley, a socially awkward man who has his own quirks and idiosyncrasies, he suffers from severe anxiety and mostly keeps to himself. He is a talented artist who runs his own gallery and takes commissions by appointment only. Stone found him intriguing and wanted to learn more about him. He knew little about him from their initial meeting, but he knew August worked at the gallery, so he went to visit there. He did not get to see him there but saw some amazing art, art he wanted for the Carnal Tower. Stone had not known August was the owner of the gallery or the artist until after and when they come up with a mutual agreement, August agrees to do the paintings for him in exchange for his services. I thought these two were great together, the chemistry between them was smoking hot and they were perfect for each other. I loved how everything played out in this book, it is a beautifully written and plotted story that has the perfect balance of drama, heartfelt emotions, and a slow burn romance with some hot sexy times. E.M. Lindsey, thank you for another wonderful story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Kirt Graves did a great job bringing these characters to life and their story to life. He had a complete understanding of the characters he portrayed, gave each a voice that fit the character’s persona perfectly, and was believable in every role he played. He set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and projected them into his performance and had you feeling every single one. Kirt Graves is an entertaining storyteller and a versatile voice artist. Thank you for another fantastic listen.

I'm finding that I do indeed like the mostly-good-but-morally-iffy characters & stories more and more, this one being the newest edition to my 'not usually my cuppa' that pleasantly surprised me. The Carnal Tower & the cast of characters within, piqued my interest and stole my heart. Looking forward to more in the series.
Kirt Graves, as always, did an outstanding job with the performance, pacing, character voices/personalities/emotion - the total package. Excellent job all around.

This story starts out grabbing my heart. Stone’s parents are less that ideal! He decides he has to leave home but hates having to leave his brother behind. Stone’s luck goes from bad to worse. He joined the circus but due to an accident he can no longer fulfill his job requirements of being an acrobat. He purchased The Carnal Tower which is really a brothel.
He meets an artist August and there is a sort of instant attraction. Stone wants to hire August but didn’t expect August would want paid by seven nights with him. It is interesting how their relationship develops. It felt to me like a scary feeling for both of them to consider a relationship. There is only one part of this story that to me it totally unbelievable and that is a part of their relationship that just doesn’t seem real to me. I enjoyed the story and I feel the narration by Kirt Graves brought these characters to life. The next book should be interesting.
