About this listen

A Post-Apocalyptic EMP Saga Filled with Fascinating Characters & Prepper Info

A deadly storm looms—and an old enemy prepares to strike…

For two years, Bear’s cabin has been a haven from the outside world. Hidden deep in the forest, Bear, Laurel, Mae, Trent, and their dog Jess have built a life for themselves—including a thriving medical clinic run by Laurel serving their isolated community. But their peaceful lives are shattered when a late winter blizzard engulfs the area, just as a fire breaks out and burns a neighbor’s cabin to the ground.

When a second cabin burns, with tragic results, the community is forced to face the ugly truth. Someone is targeting their community, and no one is safe.

Meanwhile, Gideon is on the run. His militia is no match for Bennett’s brutal paramilitary force, and with Sharon and Lisa in tow, he’s desperate for refuge. But a plea for help forces him into a deadly confrontation, and now Bennett will stop at nothing to hunt him down.

Out of options, Gideon heads for Bear’s cabin—the only sanctuary left. But he isn’t the only one bringing danger. As the storm rages and tensions mount, Bear’s sanctuary becomes the battleground for survival.

With enemies closing in, will they stand together—or lose everything?

i am really enjoying this series and it brings a real world element to this genre with the concerns. The theme feels real and you can sympthasise with the people concerned. I know it sounds wierd given the genre but maybe a trigger warning re animals.

great series well narrated

This is the seventh book in the series following some main characters after an Electro-Magnetic Pulse (EMP) threw the USA into disarray and realisation how much technology and electrical power intruded into life and survival. I've read the previous books, so have an appreciation of the events and personalities which have shaped the approach and ethos of our core main characters here. It would be possible to start here, but some plots will be spoiled for earlier books as you will know the outcome of several dramatic and perilous scenes. Our core group of Bear, Laurel, Mae and Trent with Bear's dog Jess, are ensconced in a remote cabin, helping a small close-knit local group of families when the twin threat of a snowstorm and a series of fires threaten their peace. They face mortal peril from within and without in this dystopian world and those they love are in danger with distrust sown amongst the seemingly harmonious community. They demonstrate personal bravery and resourcefulness in facing these varied threats. A satisfying solution to the mystery leaves survivors to rebuild for the next tale.
The narrator is helped by each chapter announcing whose point of view is being given. He consistently voices each character and I found it easy to understand who was speaking and he conveyed appriate mood and emotion to the scenes.
I received a free copy, and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Continuing problems for EMP survivors years later.
