Rip Van Winkle lived in a quiet colonial town, and had a habit of attending to everyone else's chores. Henpecked and poor, he goes squirrel hunting in the woods one day, only to exit twenty years later.

Its a very common, well known title but few people these days will have read it or know what its about.
Strangely its not a particularly profound work given it's well known name but thats probably because the title is used as a description of a type of character rather than a literary work.
I expected more from this story. There is a philosophical message, kind of, a very American one; the passage of Change from a rural, traditional, colonial/ monarchical world to a more progressive free (democratic) world that comes witu the negativity of chaos, confusion and anxiety There is supposed to be a warning about change and progress but its thin gruel and doesn't necessarily pack these messages aa a punch.
Its value is its age rather than its wisdom.
As its so short, there's no time investmen so read it for checking off the list of the classical catalogue but you'll quickly forget it.
Well known title. Comes up short.
