About this listen

'Ring of Bright Water' represents Gavin Maxwell's account of his life at Camusfearna, a remote cottage in the western Highlands, and in particular the two otters, Mijbil and Edal, who became his constant and much-loved companions.©1960 Gavin Maxwell (P)2014 Audible, Inc. A great old school book, very romantic in an old English/Scottish kind of way. I loved the film and now I love this book.

A great classic

Moving. Authentic and completely unselfconscious.

An absolute tonic.

Makes me yearn to return to the northbof Scotland with all its raw majesty.

Beautifully evocative story of a genuine connection with the wilds

This is my favourite Audible download so far. Gavin Maxwell's wonderful prose had me completely enthralled, his story is beautifully and evocatively descriptive without being sentimental, and the narration is faultless. It ended too soon and I'm only sorry that the further two parts of the trilogy do not seem to be available in audio format, but I have bought the book.

I have loved this story since first read as a boy - it is however read in tooth and claw frankness - spectacular though the narration most certainly is this is not for 'Townie' sensitivities. A thumpingly good tale, vividly written and sumptuously delivered. Thank you all
Ps David Rintoul along the Wests - Mum Dad and actor son - now my most favoured narrators.

Beautiful

It is tough, it is worth it, it is Scotland. To bond so well with nature and community in a time when rural life was much harder than today is inspiring.
