You are no one. Level zero. Empty of mind and memory. Even your past has been stripped from your brain by the inscrutable System.

A long, difficult road lies between you and remembering any part of who you are. A road punctuated with one death after another. You are too puny to survive by might alone. Information is the single resource that might keep you alive, but the brainless “digis” have none of it. Only those with experience can give you what you need, but most care nothing about you or your plight. In fact, some make it their mission to kill you.

So die you will, again and again, your life counter clicking lower and lower. Even the creators do not know what happens when your counter reaches zero, but many are sure that your last life here is just that. No more respawns.

You are not the first player in the world of STYX, and you will not be the last. You can only hope luck will be on your side. The luckiest players are those who find a vulnerability in the System. Those they call cheaters.

Perhaps cheating is the only way to win.

Enjoy your game.

An easy reading adventure, with some interesting draws.
The peril is real and the author leans in to it.
The secondary character isn't a dude, shows up the protagonists failing, and isn't there as a sexy lampshade.
The protagonist isn't a god-modded self-insert Mr Perfect. He's an a~hole know-it-all, who is repeatedly punished for being a know-it-all a~hole.
The zombies sit in the background being all "raar" but the real threat is the humans.

On the flip side:
There are a whole lot of plot holes e.g. The protagonist has very selective amnesia such as not knowing what a router is, but does know how to navigate the internet.
The protagonist really is a humongous a~hole, and a misogynistic one at that.
The two main characters spend most of the book hurling childish insults at each other.

Zombies and RPG and intrigue (oh my)

It took me a while to get into this book. I did read previous reviews and yes the main character is misogynistic but he is also portrayed as a fool compared to the main strong female character.

The story was tricky to understand to begin with but I was enjoying the 2and half of the book. Although this book has mixed reviews the following ones have 5 stars. I probably will try book 2

slow to start. Gets better

Good fun

The story is very mediocre, the characters are very little sense and the constant bickering is annoying. I like the idea about enemy types but the leveling up systems makes no sense. the guy is killing things 37 levels higher but only goes up by one level. so many things in this book make no sense.

I'm not a fan

What a moron, she should have went with her first choice of name for him.

He is such an idiot but I guess that means there's a lot of room for character progression. Good basis for a storyline though.

I wish she'd went for her first choice of name for him
