Disconcerting "patchwork" narration. You get used to it - sort of - except the canned laughter, which is distracting in the writing way. Altogether, the production feels like a local amateur stage production playing with "alternative" staging ideas. But even that wouldn't cast such a variety of accents, surely?

So, despite some great individual performances (Miriam Margolyes for instance can't put a foot wrong), this is far from the most satisfying version of the old favourite that I've come across.

I loved it. The cast were fabulous and true to their characters. I would love to have watched it being performed.

Unfortunately this didn’t work for me as an adaptation, the performances were off, the reading of her lines weren’t nuanced and it was read for laughs. Apart from Miriam that is.

Heavy handed Austin

This performance was so awful ( you can tell the Americans attempting to do British accents ) that I switched it off after 5 minutes . Waste of money . I had to buy the new BBC dramatised version of this available on audible , which is a vast improvement .
