About this listen

The Curzon Case is a gripping story of kidnapping, intrigue and sudden death. Boys disappear from a public school, an aeroplane crashes nearby, and a murder occurs. Paul Temple has his work cut out trying to find out if all the events are connected and tracking down the mysterious Curzon.

Crime novelist and detective Paul Temple, and his glamorous wife, Steve, made their first appearance on BBC Radio in 1938. They inhabited a sophisticated world of chilled cocktail. Now the great radio detective lives again in a brand new reading by Anthony Head.

Beware! I have notified Audible about this description (and the Harkdale robbery also incorrectly labelled).

However, in spite of that it is a cracking good yarn!

This is NOT a dramatisation!

This Paul Temple story is not included in the 4 BBC PT compilations and is also unusual in being read by a single actor rather than being a full cast play.

If you enjoy the Paul Temple stories this is a treat. If you are new to PT then you should know this is probably set in the mid sixties and is definitely a creature of its times. The relationship between Steve (the wife) and Paul is slightly less anachronistic in this story than most others but is still really a pre-war view and strange to 21st century ears.

There are the usual improbabilities but not strained enough to mar the story.

The narration is excellent.

Well read Paul temple period piece

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. As usual very well read by Anthony Head. A typical Paul Temple story. Very enjoyable.

I loved the narration by Anthony Head and preferred it to the dramatisations of Paul Temple I’ve heard. The story, while ridiculous in almost every way, is pacy, keeps your attention and has various twists and turns, and although I found it very easy to work out who the villain was, that didn’t spoil my enjoyment. I find PT an intensely irritating character, but that adds to the fun as he effortlessly solves every mystery and defeats all the baddies while making rude, snobbish comments left, right and centre. I also enjoy the insanely casual attitude to what in real life would be horrendous trauma for many of the characters!

Great fun
