About this listen

One love. One motorcycle club. Two stepbrothers.

Ryder. Controlling. Ambitious. Protective.

Jed. Self-destructive. Trapped. Lonely.

Their love? Forbidden. Taboo. All-consuming.

For Jed, the Coffin Nails Motorcycle Club is family. With them, he learned how to think, what to enjoy, and how to fight, but there is one thing he knows his friends can’t find about. They would never accept him as gay, and so his life is a constant struggle with desires that fill him with despair. Only there is a much darker secret lurking in Jed’s heart. His feelings for his stepbrother, Ryder, go far beyond brotherly. Trapped with a yearning that can never be fulfilled, Jed spirals out of control and unwillingly puts the love of his life in danger.

Ryder is climbing up the ranks. Recently promoted to sergeant-at-arms, he has it all: Drive, respect, and the love of his biker family. When his stepbrother gets into trouble with the law, Ryder decides to take the blame and save him from a long sentence. Deep inside, he knows there is nothing he wouldn’t do for Jed, but through a desperate attempt to suppress his own hidden desires, he might irreversibly break the man he secretly loves.

But finding out what they feel for each other will test their loyalty to the Coffin Nails MC and change their lives forever.

I listened to this in one day. I could not and did not want to stop. There was so much happening and this one gave me so many emotions and feelings while listening. There were so many places where i was frustrated with almost everyone in this book but ultimately I loved it and know that it is a book that I will listen to again. This series is great as they are able to be listened to as a standalone but they certainly give you more if you listen to them together.

Wow

I read this book when it first came out and loved it, so I jumped at the chance to revisit it in audio format. Ryder will do just about anything for his stepbrother, even a stint in jail. Jed has been keeping some big secrets, terrified that he will be kicked out of the club for being gay, not to mention the tiny detail that he has been in love with Ryder since they were teens. I loved this dark, taboo story

deliciously dark and taboo

I really enjoyed this audiobook and it’s depiction of the forbidden love that develops between two stepbrothers who were raised as brothers in a motorcycle club. Ryder is the responsible older brother who is willing to do anything to protect Jed. He has strange feelings for Jed, which he steadfastly pushes away. Jed is the younger brother, who was abandoned by his mother and also bears the burden of being gay in the homophobic MC world. He also has strong (sexual) feelings for Ryder. After a near tragedy, both men confess their feelings to the other, and they must decide how to navigate their future with each other and the motorcycle club. Can they keep their feelings secret? What will happen if the other Club members find out? Complicating life are Jed’s horrible, blackmailing girlfriend who has compromising pictures of Jed, an important drug deal in the works, and lazy Club members in need of a shake-up. I really liked that this audiobook/book presents a realistic picture of gay members and motorcycle clubs. In the end, they DON’T all accept, cozy-up, and sing kumbaya. Much hate, prejudice, and rejection remains, but Ryder and Jed find a way through it.

WARNING: This audiobook is realistic and gritty in it’s portrayal of club life, including morally ambiguous characters, attempted non-consensual sex, drug and alcohol use, drug running, theft, sexual promiscuity, toxic masculinity, and homophobia. There are also some instances of “club justice” (including beatings and arson).

The narration is excellent and well-portrays the rough bikers, while also softening up for the gentler exchanges and hot, sexy times between Jed and Ryder.

I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Another perfect shade of grey story by KA Merikan. Ryder and Jed have an unique story that kept me entranced throughout. Don’t know how KA Merikan get the perfect balance without copying stories, but all the stories are fresh. Wyatt Baker did an amazing job with the narration.

This story takes the series in a complete different direction. Jed is plagued by a few secrets. His relationship with Dana isn’t what it appears to be. His life is mostly a secret and his attraction to his step-brother is something he tries to hide.

Ryder is the most responsible of the two. He looks out for Jed his whole life. When Ryder is in jail and when his girlfriend leaves him, he faces issues he before hasn’t wanted to. This story kept me wondering how these authors could make this realistic and still a good outcome for these two. Somehow they can take a story to its deepest despair and still make a ending I’m happy with. I received a copy from GRR and appreciate being able to listen to the narration by Wyatt Baker. He brought all the characters to life and made the story that much more realistic.
