About this listen

Florence Cooper has spent most of her life caring for her niece, Cam Langley. Now she shares a house with her niece and Cam's beautiful girlfriend, Gloria Edwards, but at fifty-five, arthritis is slowing Florrie's body and solitude is settling on her soul.

On Gloria's graduation day, a chance meeting with the woman who broke Florrie's heart over twenty years ago throws chaos and confusion into her life, forcing her to take a trip down memory lane into 1920s literary London.
Old wounds reopen and long-buried feelings reignite, pulling Florrie into a life she thought long-drowned. Standing once more on the edge of uncertainty, Florrie must decide: dive into the ocean of possibilities or swim for the safety of the shore.

Oh my, Florence and Diane, such a wonderful story, Florence is adorable and Diane though initially a little too aloof became very human and the description of there sameness and differences so warmly described. Thank you for a book about lesbians not just about lust but with perfectly drawn characters with honest emotions.

On the edge of uncertainty was an absolute joy to listen to. Juanita McMahan skillfully brings to life this beautiful novel by EV Bancroft.
The story is set in Cambridge in the 1950s and London in 1920s. As the love story unfolds the strong emotional connection between Florrie and her employer Diana is just wonderful, and the playfulness and passion they experience. The novel explores a time in history when the choices for women are much more restricted than they are now. The absolute sadness and heartbreak that Florrie later experiences, is deepened by not being able to be honest and open about how she is feeling, and as a listener you can't help but be moved by all the heart ache she is going through....and you become more curious to know what life is like for Diana at this time

I loved the really nurturing relationship between Florrie and her niece Cam, and the warmth in their scenes together, with the recurring theme of connection.

I also enjoyed the exploration of the issue of Trust....it's beautiful, honest and heart-warming.
This is such a gorgeous book, you won't be disappointed

Once again Juanita does an amazing job of bringing EV Bancroft's characters to life. In this book we ask, can love be rekindled after a harsh break up and miscommunication going back 20 years? Can Florrie believe and put her trust in what Diana is telling her or is she just being opened up to more heartache? This book delves deep into the past of Florrie, Cams aunt from Encrypted Hearts, taking us back to the roaring twenties. Here we find out that there is so much more to Florrie than the kind thoughtful aunt that we have seen so far. EV really knows how to pen a story, including deep emotional characters that feel so real alongside a very authentic backdrop of both the 1920's and 1940's.
