There were some decent ideas that helped me to reflect on certain elements of my sparring and training.

On a negative note, the author fails to mention stance geometry or ‘orthodox-southpaw’ matchups, which are essential especially to striking arts—they have a big impact on tactics and strategy. Also, the author has some weak arguments against sparring, and readily admits that they scarcely spar. That’s fine, but it suggests inexperience with actually deploying the theory within this book against a resisting opponent. Thus, some of the contents of this book are likely untested and confined to theoretical speculation.

The author is a thinker. And it shows. There are some really well thought out ideas, especially around overall strategy. I recommend for anyone who has started sparring and wants to dip their toes into the more tactical and strategic elements, in order to improve their sparring and fighting..

Some decent ideas, some weak arguments. Not for beginners.
