Summary

When Kendra Tamale returns to England from Australia, she rents a room from Kyle, a divorced father of two, and begins a new job. She's looking forward to a fresh start and a simple life.

Kyle's five-year-old twins, Summer and Jaxon, have other ideas and quickly adopt Kendra as their new mother - mainly because she lets them eat marshmallows for breakfast. Kendra eventually becomes a part of their lives, even though she's hiding a painful secret that makes her keep everyone, especially children, at arm's length.

Then Kendra bumps into the man who shares her awful secret, and things fall apart. She can't sleep, she can't eat, she's suspended from work, and the kids are taken away by their mother. The only way to fix things is to confess to the terrible mistake she made all those years ago. But that's something she swore never to do.

Marshmallows for Breakfast is a tale of redemption, hope, and finding love in unexpected places.

My friend bought me this audiobook along with My Best Friend's Girl and its the first time I had heard of this author. I am so pleased she introduced me to Dorothy Koomson as she writes brilliant books and the narrator did a fantastic job reading both of these books.

I would say out of the three books I have now listened too by Dorothy Koomson (The above books and Goodnight Beautiful) that this was my least favourite, don't get me wrong I did like this book however at points I found it really triggering (e.g upsetting) and it can be a hard book for me to listen too.

Most of the book is fine but when it comes to some of her past I would say it might upset/trigger some of you. I would say if talking of sexual abuse would upset you then it might be worth avoiding this book, however if you feel you can get through it then the rest of the story is great and wont upset/trigger you.

I don't tend to listen to this book as much due to the above but I am sure I will listen to it now and again. It is a lovely story, its just that some parts of it can be rather upsetting.

Great narrator, an enjoyable listen just a little warning that you might find some parts of it upsetting but at the same time the other parts will make up for it.

So for me personally, I'd have to say 3 out of 5 but that was because for me this book did trigger/upset me and I found it very hard to listen too (the upsetting parts). If the book didn't trigger me because of some of her past then I would give it a 4 out of 5.

Another good book by Dorothy Koomson and I hope to see more available soon (that's if she has any more books, I am not sure if she does!).

Like the book but parts were upsetting

considering her other work, which I've enjoyed, this felt like a something of nothing book. to an extent it was enjoyable but it just washed over me as an easy listen. the noise effects were particularly annoying. I understand they indicated the passage of time but I think they were unnecessary.

Bit disappointing

I didn’t realise before I brought it that it was only a few hours long! Waste of a credit in that respect!!

Too short!!!
