Great storyline, a bit different from the usual Wexford books. I enjoyed it very much.

Only Ruth Rendell can achieve that exquisite mix of homeliness (with Wexford) and horror (the murders). She perhaps manages it best in this book. Great story, perfect narration.

It was difficult to stick with this one. The basic premise was good, but the storyline could have been condensed. There were too many characters making it hard to remember who was who. There were too many side stories, and, as usual, too much description. It was clear from early on who one of the culprits was; the accomplice wasn't so obvious. The narrator did a better Wexford this time - more realistic.
