THEY CAME TO TAKE HER BROTHER... INSTEAD THEY MET HER SCYTHE

Every year the gods demand boys for the mines. When Leina slaughters the soldiers who come for her brother, she expects death.

Instead, she's claimed by a goddess and thrown into a world of winged warhorses, warring gods, cursed monsters - and Ryot, the god-sworn warrior ordered to keep her in line.

Bound by duty, shaped by discipline, Ryot is everything she's not. But he sees the fire in her. The power. The danger.

Leina never asked to be chosen. And she's certainly not interested in saving the kingdom that enslaved her people.

But destiny has other plans... and the gods should fear what they've awakened.

The story is engaging and I enjoyed it enough to consider continuing with the series. unfortunately the narration made it difficult to follow and fully enjoy. The female narrator in particular sounded like a constantly angry spoiled child which made many scenes feel more whiny than emotional. After hours of listening it became distracting and sometimes hard to stay immersed.

Good story frustrating narration

I found I really hard to enjoy this title. The male narrator did an amazing job but the female was extremely whiny and over dramatic. I ended up playing the story at 2.0 to get it over with quicker. The story itself was a solid piece. I will probably listen to the second book when it comes out if the female narrator is different… otherwise I will read the book.

Awful narration 😔

🪶 A voice-gilded, god-touched obsession 🪶

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“They took everything from me. But the goddess left me with fire.”

I thought I knew this story. I thought I had already felt its teeth sink in, its fire take hold. But the audiobook of Kissed by the Gods doesn’t just retell Caty Rogan's beautiful story—it transfigures it. What was already ferocious and lyrical on the page becomes something sharper, deeper, more devastatingly alive when spoken aloud.

Zara Hampton-Brown becomes Leina. Every edge of her is honed—the fury, the defiance, the fracture lines beneath it all. She is fiercer here, yes, but also more fragile in the quiet moments, that vulnerability threading through the steel. You don’t just witness her transformation—you hear it, feel it tightening in your chest, breath by breath.

And Ryot… gods. I was not prepared. Benjamin O’Mahony doesn’t simply narrate him—he inhabits him. That low, dangerous warmth, the smirk you can practically hear, the restraint stretched razor-thin. I thought I had already claimed him as a top-tier book boyfriend, but SWEET SERAPHELLE—this version of Ryot is something else entirely. Intimate. Consuming. Ruinous in the best way.

The slow-burn romance? Even more exquisite in audio. Every pause, every shift in tone, every almost-confession laced with tension—it simmers. The restraint feels heavier. The want, sharper. Battle may take centre stage, but the heat coils tighter because of it.

And the world—already rich—becomes breathtakingly immersive. The faravars glide through the soundscape with an almost ghostly majesty, their beauty made more ethereal, more dangerous. The gods feel closer. The stakes, higher. Even the minor characters are given such distinct, careful voice that the entire cast feels vivid and fully realised.

This isn’t just narration—it’s elevation. Every emotion is tightened, every moment given weight, every heartbeat amplified.

Verdict: A brutal, beautiful fantasy reborn in sound—more intimate, more immersive, and utterly intoxicating. If the book was fire, the audiobook is an inferno. Absolutely unmissable.

story: solid romantasy. nothing out of the ordinary. I enjoyed it. I did guess a bits ahead of time, but it didnt take anything away from the story.
I do plan to continue with this series.
audio: female narrator was a bit overly dramatic in places for my taste. and male narrator had very little variation to his voice that one conversation between 2 male characters sounded like the bloke was just talking to himself, I couldn't differentiate.

solid romantasy

This was really well narrated!👏

This was an extremely dense, violent, and fascinating world.🤩

Leina had a poor and tough life, but it was always happy. Until her oldest brother and the man she loved come of age for the Crown to take them to the mines. The soldiers arrive early. They're deadly and deeply cruel!

Years later, her next brother is going to be taken, and she snaps! A power she doesn't understand takes hold, and she kills the soldiers but they do kill both of her parents.😢 From there, her life will never be the same!💥

An 'Altor', God blessed soldiers, comes to take her to their training grounds. She's the first woman Altor in a thousand years. She's later 'God Kissed', so especially blessed!

Like I said, it has dense but fascinating world building. The Altors' war horses are amazing.😍 The royal family, well, mostly the King, are foul.🤬 The Elder is amusing, but some in the next rung down seem power hungry! I really liked Ryot and his 'Cast'. They're such a good found family for Leina.🫶

During the final mission, a lot comes to light!😱 It leaves us with a great hook, begging for more in book 2! (The big reveal of Ryot wasn't a shock at all, I thought it was obvious, I don't know why she didn't figure it out.🤷🏻‍♀️)

I'm very much looking forward to book two.👏 I think it's likely to be explosive!💥
