About this listen

From a life in comedy to the Glitterball Trophy – Chris McCausland Tells All. The perfect feel-good gift for fans of comedy and Strictly alike.

Already one of the country's best loved comedians, Chris McCausland's participation on Strictly was a phenomenon. But how did the boy from Liverpool end up winning the hearts of the nation?

This is his remarkable story, of a twenty-five-year journey through sight loss to blindness. Of the highs, the lows and the downright hilarious along the way.

From being a lowlife conker dealer, and running his very own bootlegging empire (kind of) . . . to almost becoming a spy for MI5 (really) . . .

And of how he dared himself to try stand-up comedy, and ended up being brilliant on all your favourite TV shows.

Before, of course, he surprised himself, as well as everybody else, when he tried dancing on live TV in front of millions.

Warm, honest, insightful and laugh-out-loud funny, this is the most likeable, cheering and uplifting book of the year!

'The thing about Chris is that he's funnier than everybody else' RICHARD OSMAN

I don't usually leave a review for the books I've listened to but this really deserves a good one.
I enjoy autobiographies; seeing the 'other side' of people. However, while getting off to a good start, childhood, school, early work etc., they inevitably begin to fizzle out two thirds of the way through with the last few chapters becoming a race to the end (while keeping to the required word count).
Chris McCausland's 'Keep Laughing' is a wonderful exception to the 'two thirds' rule. Funny, endearing, thought provoking and thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish.
His journey from the beginning of, to total blindness later on, is recounted in such a way that at no point does he try to get the sympathy vote. He just tells is as it is; he's goes blind and just gets on with it.
As opposed to fizzling out, the book ends on a wonderful high note as Chris and his partner Diane win the 2024 Strictly Come Dancing trophy.
Even readers who have never watched an episode of Strictly cannot fail to be swept along with the behind the scenes narration.
A thoroughly enjoyable read from start to finish and an real eye opener (no pun intended) into the life of someone who is blind.
And if anyone tells Chris McCausland about the reviews for this, his first book, I'd just like to say thank you Chris, I enjoyed every minute.

A joyous listen from start to finish

One of the 1st audio books I have listened to by the author and wow it’s much more engaging and enjoyable. A good read (listen) regardless of what kind of ‘fan’ you are

A great insight to Chris’s life

What an interesting life. Amazing to hear Chris recall his sight loss and how his parents allowed him to make his choices. He has such a positive outlook and puts others to shame.

Really enjoyed the playful nature of the book. Will very likely listen again.

I so enjoyed listening to Chris read his autobiography. I know from Chris and Dianne’s brilliant podcast, what a mammoth task it was. As he reads, he seems to relive everything and injects so much fun and warmth for the listener. I loved learning about Chris‘s early life and how he courageously navigated his way through the process of going blind with humour - and with love and support from his family and friends. I learned such a lot. I love Strictly, and those chapters, and his time with lovely Dianne, brought back so many poignant memories. Thank you, Chris.

I didn’t want it to end.
