Summary

From the number one bestselling author, Peter James, comes I Follow You, a nerve-shredding standalone thriller.

To the outside world, suave, charming and confident doctor Marcus Valentine has it all. A loving wife, three kids, a great job. But there’s something missing, there always has been. . . . or rather, someone . . .

Driving to work one morning, his mind elsewhere and not on the road, he almost mows down a female jogger on a crossing. As she runs on, Marcus is transfixed. Infatuated. She is the spitting image of a girl he was crazy about in his teens. A girl he has never been able to get out of his mind.

Lynette had dumped him harshly. For years he has fantasized about seeing her again and rekindling their flame. Might that jogger possibly be her all these years later? Could this be the most incredible coincidence?

Despite all his attempts to resist, he is consumed by cravings for this woman. And when events take a tragically unexpected turn, his obsession threatens to destroy both their worlds. But still he won’t stop. Can’t stop.

Enjoyed this story, it was really frustrating to listen to but I guess P James would class this as a success! I found the narrator often lowered his voice so that it couldn’t be heard properly. It was fine with headphones but not over a speaker. This is the only reason I didn’t give 5 stars for the performance.

Good story but audio too quiet

The story revolves around Consultant obstetrician/gynaecologist Marcus Valentine.. There is nothing at all likeable in him. He becomes dangerously obsessed by personal trainer, who is a runner and uploads her runs and her routes to a social media platform allowing Marcus to know where she goes. He follows her on social media, and he follows her for real! Very creepy!

I found the book a bit slow to get going but then the tension ramps up and it was one of those 'just one more chapter' listens. The book is set on Jersey but I don't feel that Peter James made enough of the island setting. Perhaps the book is a tiny bit predictable, and Valentine is a bit too much of a pantomime villain, but all in all this was an excellent listen.

Tense psychological thriller

This is an excellent book. Maybe even Peter James’ best work. It’s beautifully written, with very strong characters. The central character is a horrendous psychopath, resulting in the book being really difficult to put down. Throughout, I had an urgent need to know what happened next. The narration is also excellent, other than a dodgy Irish accent, that was a very brief part though, so he still deserves 5 stars.

Wonderfully compelling!
