When Louis Trevelyan's young wife meets an old family acquaintance, his unreasonable jealousy of their friendship sparks a quarrel that leads to a brutal and tragic estrangement.

Often considered to be his masterpiece, Anthony Trollope's 1869 novel explores the themes of marriage, love, and the rights of women in 19th-century England.

With a cast of independent, forceful characters and lively subplots, Trollope creates a penetrating and often comic dissection of the mores of Victorian society.

What did you like most about He Knew He Was Right?

It's an entertaining story, I read because it's included on the 1001 books to read before you die lists and was lucky to have an opportunity for a free copy for an unbiased review.

I was dubious about reading Trollope but was told this isn't a bad one to start with, and I enjoyed it for sure.

What about Nigel Patterson’s performance did you like?

Good performance overall. He presented this really well.

Any additional comments?

I will be reading more Trollope based on my enjoyment of this one.

Good introduction to Trollope

A real storm in a tea cup taken too far, also took a long time to catch my interest but then I enjoyed it. Not his best. Well read.

Much a do about nothing

I am sure that Trollope would have been an excellent TV series writer if the medium had existed in 1869. That is what the book is like when you listen to it, but with some language quirks.

My first Trollope

Nothing to dislike from such a brilliant writer. Each of Trollope’s novels is so different in subject, he gets the attention from the first page.

Wonderful storytelling from the beginning to the end. I was sorry when it finished.

I love Trollope and this is one of his best. Great insight into human nature, jealousy and obstinacy. My only regret is that the evil Colonel Osborne doesn’t get his just desserts!

Brilliantly read and a great and moving story.
