I have listened to all the new version Harry Potter audiobooks. Overall, everything is just wonderful. I loved the depths of the auditory experience. The noises is in the background, particularly add a wonderful depth to the storytelling.
All the voice actors are great and match our experiences of the films. However, Hermione voice is very grating. I’m genuinely sorry to give this feedback but it stood out for me and unfortunately distracted me from the storytelling. Whenever Hermione was angry, distressed, or fuming the actor was just too over the top for my liking.

Wonderful but Hermiones voice grates

Rather than reviewing each book individually I decided to wait until I'd finished the seventh book to do a review of the whole series to give an overview of the series as a whole given this is a reread of the series rather than coming to the series as a new reader.

While I love the Stephen Fry versions of these books and will always revisit them, I found these versions of the books much more immersive and felt I was really part of the story. Having acters acting the different parts and including sound affects and music brought the stories to life in a different way. I have never come across complete and unabridged audio books with the complete text done in this way and I have to say I feel Audible and pottermore publishing did a fantastic job of the series.

Harry potter is perfect for this kind of audio book because of the amount that occurs in the stories and the way the series draws you in. For a first project of this nature I feel it was successful and I suspect sales will reflect this. It gives a new way of enjoying these wonderful stories and could even introduce new readers who would rather have multiple readers and extra content such as sound to the series.

The casting for the parts in the most part was really well done however I must say my favourite casting by far was Ruth Wilson as Belatrix. She was perfect for the roll and I could really here her as the character. The sound affects and music made me feel like I was really there in every aspect of the stories, aspects I did not realise I found funny when reading the other versions made me laugh. I don't want to say anymore on this apart from I would highly recommend people give this a try. Weather you are a new reader to the series or a huge fan like myself I think you will really love it and if you are a new reader find a new series that will be revisited for years to come.

On the back of this I hope audible will do more books of this nature in the same manner as listening to these books felt like a mixture of watching a movie and reading the books. Cush Jumbo as the main narrator did a great job, the narrators job in this kind of project is very different as she was not required to do voices and perform different characters, it was all about holding the story together and producing the write emotion when reading certain scenes and I felt as she got more into the series her narration improved with each book.

I really hope on the back of this we will see more unabridged audio books done in this way because there are so many books out there and not just fantacy that could work for this format.

A very tough project to pull off however I feel Audible on the whole did a fantastic job and I have found a new way of loving this series all over again.

A great series and I hope this is not the last.

I love these books & listen to the regular books every night. These full cast editions are by and large great, but the casting of the ‘Golden Trio’ is very poor ‘Ron’ is perfect but ‘Hermione’ is constantly screeching her lines to the point where I have to turn her down. ‘Harry’ sounds like he’s on half speed. For me this spoils books 4-7.

Unfortunately the delivery of Harry's part was hugely disappointing. Felt as though each line was delivered through gritted teeth, and not with genuine feeling. Otherwise, the tale and delivery were as spellbinding as ever.

Mostly Brilliant.

Overall this was excellent, however I found that the actor playing Harry made him a fairly irritating character. Everything was too shouty even at times when it was unnecessary. Perhaps this was a conscious decision by the director to emphasize his desperation but for me it didn't work. Despite this I would still recommend.

Overall enjoyable
