About this listen
'And what was our life like in this noisy, dangerous and polluted industrial pock-mark wedged into one of the capital's toughest neighbourhoods? It was, of course, utterly magnificent and I'd give anything to climb inside it again for just one day.'
In the first volume of his memoirs, Danny Baker brings his early years to life as only he knows how. With his trademark humour and eye for a killer anecdote, he takes us all the way from the council house in south-east London that he shared with his mum Betty and dad 'Spud' (played by Peter Kay) to the music-biz excesses of Los Angeles, where he famously interviewed Michael Jackson for the NME. Laugh-out-loud funny, it is also an affectionate but unsentimental hymn to a bygone era.

Critic reviews
Full of warmth and laughter (Ian Hyland)
Great insight into living through the 60s and 70s.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Laying quietly by the pool then periodically laughing out loud or attempting to stifle out and out belly laughs. Do not listen to this in the quiet coach of a train. No airs, no graces, just a cracking story.

However I'm not here to do a character assassination job on him. I'm here to review the book. it is a collection of funny anecdotes and a journey through a life. candid and honest both qualities refreshing. Full of interesting nuggets of information, he reads it just the way he does his 'Onw Goals and Gaffs' videos. it is funny and for once not stylized to the point of boredom. No made up stories at least I don't think so. A good read despite the author being everything I've said about him.
shameless old tosser that's what he is

Danny's exploits made me laugh out loud and I wonder just how he managed to 'come through' what life has thrown at him.
He's farthe rwas, if it is beleived -a bit of a charactor and living on the edge and I wonder why there is not one chapter on how they visited him in clink!
Wonderful book - I have listened to it twice now - and reccomend it to anyone.
Good listening!
