In the tradition of Bertrand Russell's Why I Am Not a Christian and Sam Harris's, The End of Faith, Christopher Hitchens makes the ultimate case against religion. With a close and erudite reading of the major religious texts, he documents the ways in which religion is a man-made wish, a cause of dangerous sexual repression, and a distortion of our origins in the cosmos. With eloquent clarity, Hitchens frames the argument for a more secular life based on science and reason, in which the heavens are replaced by the Hubble Telescope's awesome view of the universe, and Moses and the burning bush give way to the beauty and symmetry of the double helix.

As someone with differing views to the Author ( in as much as not everyone with religious views is against other Faith's etc )
I found the book thoughtful, insightful and that valid points was raised, while still ( mostly!) respecting other people who disagree with his point of view.
A very good listen

Thoughtful intelligent viewpoints

if you were alive you would have a field day. The only thing that I can add is that it is not that God is not great, it is that he dosen't exists at all.

Great book

This book is an indepth study if the major religions that currently influence society. Brilliantly researched and written. As a practicing Christian, I was challenged on numerous occasions to think about the practice of my religion all over the world. One small problem, Hitchens does not acknowledge the anything positive about the practice of religion.

Brilliant, thought provoking book

I love his work, writing, and discussions. But it was difficult to listen to. very rushed, slurred at times, and mumbling constantly. Too easy to zone out when he sounds like a drunk pensioner in the corner of a pub and rambling to himself.

Great book, terrible narration.

An honest reflection for people of faith and the non believer alike. Listening to the late Hitchens reminds us how missed his voice is today. I have gifted this book to both the religious and atheistic and after getting past the title, both have found this book a must read.
