Philip Simmons was diagnosed eight years ago, at the age of 35, with ALS, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's disease. The disease is degenerative, with no cure. He's written a new collection of essays, Learning to Fall: The Blessings of an Imperfect Life. (Broadcast Date: July 26, 2001)
