Bloomsbury presents Forbidden Waters by Rob Parker, read by Luke R. Francis.

It starts with the knife. Found at the bottom of a hidden lake in the Norfolk Broads, covered in blood and heart tissue so fresh the water hasn't yet washed it all away. What salvage diver Cam Killick has found is a murder weapon from a very recent crime – but how do you solve a murder without a body?

The remoteness of the setting is itself a clue. Only a handful of people know the location of the lake, let alone how to access it. But no sooner have Cam and DS Claire Rogers started working through this ready-made suspect pool than one of them disappears.

The ripples from Cam's discovery have disturbed a dangerous predator, one who knows the water even better than Cam himself. The question now is what they want – and how many more people will die before Cam can stop them?

A serial killer is on the loose in Norfolk in this breathtaking thriller from 'the master of the stone-cold twist', perfect for fans of Elly Griffiths, Peter James and Ann Cleeves.©2026 Rob Parker (P)2026 Bloomsbury Publishing PLC

Critic reviews

Blistering ... seamlessly blends humane themes with all-out action
The follow-up to the excellent The Troubled Deep, the second of the Cam Killick mysteries is tense, intelligent and vividly atmospheric. The Norfolk Broads provide a world of submerged secrets, and Cam is a deeply compelling lead. This is suspense with real momentum, and a narrative that pulls readers deep into a chilling tale told with heart and humanity. Unmissable
As dark and dangerous as the waters Cam Killick dives in. A truly unique series with an undeniable humanity at its core that’ll thrill you one minute and rip your heart out the next (Robert Rutherford, Sunday Times bestselling author of Seven Days)
I adore Cam - and his stoic bumbling ways. While he’s sometimes misguided, he’s doing his best, as we all are, but coming unstuck along the way. A triumphant return (Sam Holland, author of The Countdown Killer)
Forbidden Waters is another triumph from Rob Parker. The Norfolk setting is painted so vividly it feels alive on the page, beautiful and menacing at the same time. This is a fast-paced, gripping thriller that doesn’t just deliver on suspense, but also digs deep into themes of grief, injustice, and the lingering shadows of the past. Parker continues to grow as a writer with every book, and I already can’t wait for Cam Killick’s next adventure (Chris McDonald)
PRAISE FOR ROB PARKER

What a romp! I raced through this murky tale of murder, aching mystery and long-buried truth like a hot knife through butter! Rob Parker is a master of the stone cold twist (Janice Hallett, Sunday Times bestselling author)
A story that propels you through the pages at a rate of knots and one that is the very definition of a one-sitting read (Robert Rutherford, Sunday Times bestselling author of Seven Days)
I loved Cam. Flawed and broken, but undoubtably human, he’s brave, and loyal to a fault (Sam Holland, author of the Major Crimes series)

I’ve listened to both books in this series now & can’t wait for the next one. Very good story & characters. The narrator was easy to listen to with a nice voice.

Led through the Norfolk waters, the history folklore and menace all add to Cams tale. Mental health management in futher traumatic situations handled with great sensitivity. The twisty path of predator and prey, who is which? i will listen to this again as itt was so thought provoking at times I may have missed something

thilling & enthralling
