Summary

Nations collapsed. The undead rose. Some people survived.

Three months after escaping from London, Bill discovers the true extent of the global war that followed the outbreak. Most of the world has been destroyed, but though ruined farmland and abandoned cities are filled with zombies, there are other survivors and there is a safe haven - so he is told - in a small village on the Irish coast.

Before he can go there, he must find and rescue the children. Then he'll have to battle his way through the infected wastelands of England and Wales in hopes that there really is a boat waiting for them. Even then, his journey won't be over.

When he's told of the sanctuary awaiting them, he also discovers that the scientist who created the virus escaped from New York. In order for any of them to ever truly be safe, Bill will have to head north to confront the man, discover the truth behind the outbreak, and finally choose between his old family and his new one.

Great addition to the series, plenty of twists and turns to keep you hooked and plenty of great new characters, can't wait for the next

A story that keeps getting better

Not as gripped listening to this as the ones before.
I don't think Sholto is much of an addition as a character tbh.
Overall, this book rambles more and has kept less of my attention.
The same great narration though.

Not as good as the preceding books.

Where does Family rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is one of my top reads and cannot tell you how nice it is to have a realistic character in a zombie apocalypse plus it's based in the UK.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Family?

The best part of this is the answering of many of the stories questions so far and then the fact these answers bring on more questions!

Have you listened to any of Tim Bruce’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I do enjoy his narrating and the other books in the series have been narrated by him and these are just as good!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes! It is hard to put down!

Any additional comments?

I reached out to the author and he was so kind to reply and have chatted a few times since. I have paid for these books (although he sent me a code for the novella Zombies vs The Living Dead) but the fact he took the time to answer my questions about the story and engages with fans of the book also makes the whole experience 5*

If you could sum up Family in three words, what would they be?

Thrilling detailed characterful

Who was your favorite character and why?

I probably warmed to Kim the most as she is a woman of a certain age who despite a dreadful past still fights for her life and those around her. She is the mother figure at its best. Willing to do nything to save the children and delegates tasks easily.

Any additional comments?

Another great book in the series. Nice to have an apocalyptic zombie drama set in familiar locations (in the uk) that have clearly been well researched. The plot development is good and seems like it is really going somewhere but relishing good character development on the way.

Great detail that makes sense of outbreak
