IT WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO BE MURDER . . .

Pensioner Felix Pink is about to find out that it’s never too late . . . for life to go horribly wrong.

When Felix lets himself in to Number 3 Black Lane, he’s there to perform an act of kindness and charity: to keep a dying man company as he takes his final breath . . .

But just fifteen minutes later Felix is on the run from the police – after making the biggest mistake of his life.

Now his routine world is turned upside down as he tries to discover what went wrong, while staying one step ahead of the law.

Exit is the heart-pounding, heart-breaking, and often hilarious new novel from Sunday Times bestselling author Belinda Bauer.

Critic reviews

Such warmth and wit.
A crime novel . . . but not as you know it.
Beady-eyed yet tender, it resembles a collaboration between Agatha Christie and Muriel Spark.
Fresh, funny, flawless: EXIT is a joy from start to finish.
Charming, intensely human . . . and very suspenseful. I loved it.
EXIT is ingeniously plotted and every word is perfect. It’s a rare book that has you turning the pages impatiently, desperate to solve the mystery, all the while never wanting it to end because it’s such a joy to read. Felix Pink is the most loveable killer in recent fiction.
Twisty, brilliantly plotted and funny too. Felix Pink is a wonderful character and I just wanted to hug him. (He'd be horrified!)
Cleverly plotted, touching and funny.
EXIT is the perfect antidote to the nervy gloom of this shut-down world. It's warm and funny and dark and sad all at the same time, beautifully plotted and paced, and peopled with fabulous, complex characters that have drawn me right into their lives. Felix is fast becoming one of my favourite fictional characters.
This darkly funny crime novel has possibly the most unique concept I've come across: 75-year-old Felix is part of a network called the Exiteers, who sit with people who have chosen to end their lives. Except on his most recent mission, something goes wrong and Felix finds himself on the run for murder. For fans of Kate Atkinson's Jackson Brodie books.

This was a delight from start to finish. Don’t be put off by the main, somewhat dark theme of the story. This is a lovely heart warming, comic, mystery story. I will miss the characters and hearing Tim M’s voice. He made the book and the characters come alive. His pace and timing were perfect. I felt quite teary in the end, in a good way. A wonderful listen. Thank you Belinda Bauer, thank you Tim McInnerny.

Sad it finished!

I’ve read other books by this author and this was up there with the best.
An unusual subject told beautifully by the narrator. I liked his Devon accent. The characters were all believable, I liked Felix and was fully invested in his plight. Had me guessing till the end.

Really enjoyable

I really enjoyed this book. Definitely for fans of the Thursday murder club / marlow murder club. There were a few small things about the ending that I didn’t love. But this book is definitely about the journey rather than the destination. I also liked the narrator even if some of the voices were a little dodgy!

Enjoyable!

At first it seemed quite a serious story but the humour shone through more and more as it progressed. I was hooked right to the end and sad that it had finished.
Tim Mcinnerny was , as expected, a brilliant narrator. He characterised the individuals beautifully and they were all vivid in my minds eye. Would recommend.

Loved this book

This was my first Belinda Bauer novel, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! This took a whole new aspect to life and murder for apparently ordinary people. The story has a decent sense of humour, too. The range of characters felt very real, particularly the more elderly ones. They are also very humane and trying to be understanding of others. The plot took a turn that I hadn’t expected (the first of a few), so it felt quite refreshing. The narration is excellent. I shall look for another of the author’s stories that might offer a change of pace from many stories I usually enjoy.

An interesting change of pace with a good sense of humour.
