I’d never really considered how at every momentous occasion in our lives, cake is always there. Katy uses cake as a framing device to cover moments of loss and pain as well as celebration. Her openness is compelling and her turn of phrase is grab-you-by-the-guts beautiful. I would recommend this book in particular for anyone thinking about their relationship with food and eating, anyone who has lost someone close to them or is feeling a bit lost themselves.
