About this listen

A woman is murdered in an empty house. Within 24 hours there is another horrific murder using the same method. The detectives soon deduce that the victims are random, but the locations are not. The killer looks for the right house - somewhere he won't be disturbed.

This author goes to some really dark places with her writing. I hate to think of what she has to do for research purposes but I’d love to spend time chatting with her about her writing! Yet again another well written book. On to the next.

This is a really good story with great characters and a good plot. It moves along nicely and would be a 5* listen if not for the narrator who spends around 20% of the book speaking at almost a whisper making it hard to hear unless you happen to be in a silent room with headphones on. A shame as he has a good voice during the normal spoken sections but the irregular volume and soft near-whispering ruined it for me. The first book had the same issue and while I do want to continue the series I'm not keen to hear it with this narrator.
I thought maybe it was just me but I see that many of the reviews on Audible also mention the up/down volume issue too.

The series is linked by the word 'dark' and yes it is dark so much more than its companion series. Loved it - it is great working out how the team develops with each other especially when needed - I wont say more as it is a spoiler but the author pulls no punches.
I do like the narration for me it suits the story line.

…please, for your stories’ sake and your sales’ sake, change your narrator. I’d like to hear more of your books, but not sure if I can stand Nicholas Camm’s narration again! The dynamics may be good on screen, but they absolutely do not work on audio books…
