About this listen

Ever since he became a Christian at the age of forty, it has been Poirot actor David Suchet's dream to make an audio recording of the whole Bible. In between filming the final episodes of Poirot, David Suchet spent over 200 hours in the recording studio to create the very first full-length audio version of the NIV Bible spoken by a single British actor. Volume 1 of the NIV Audio Bible includes the Law, Histories and Poetry, covering the books of Genesis to Song of Songs.

The NIV Audio Bible is also available as an app.

An exemplary performance by David Suchet. Chapters bear no resemblance to those in the Bible nor even to books contained.

Brilliant reading of a brilliant book. Shame you can't navigate around it. But I'm still pleased I got it.

What can be said in review of 'The Holy Bible'? In the original Greek and Hebrew text it is the very word of God. What a wonderful gift! David Suchet narrates with seemingly effortless excellence, making this an enjoyable meditative experience.

This is, of course, the new translation of the N.I.V. (New International Version), which has been brutally butchered in places compared it's vastly superior predecessor of the 70's 80's and 90's. Neverthess, however clumsily rendered in parts, and horrifically badly in others, ninety-five per-cent of the content is pure relating to the original context.

Other versions are much more faithful to the ancient text and there will be some wincing on behalf of the mature seasoned reader. However, as an easy-listening experience, it is for the most part good and wholesome. Thank you David Suchet!

Excellent.
