About this listen

Renowned sex-crimes prosecutor and bestselling author Linda Fairstein sends her acclaimed heroine—the stylish and steely-nerved D.A. Alexandra Cooper—on a hunt for a killer inside New York City's glitzy art world.

Alexandra Cooper has seen many murder victims, but few more disturbing than the silk-clad body of a woman, her hands and feet tied to a ladder, pulled from the turbulent waters at Manhattan's northern tip. With her colleagues, including NYPD detectives Mike Chapman and Mercer Wallace, Alex races against the clock and hopes for a "cold hit"—a DNA match that would reveal the identity of the murderer by linking the crime to someone already in the police database. But as the case pulls her into the exclusive world of East Side auction houses and cutting-edge Chelsea galleries, Alex discovers she may be marked as an expendable commodity in a chilling and deadly scheme...©1999 Robert J. Fairstein is just great, if you like Patricia Cornwell, Elizabeth George etc you will just love Fairstein. Keeps the suspense going from beginning to end.

What made the experience of listening to Cold Hit the most enjoyable?

I was looking forward to a Linda Fairstein book on audio. And although this one was an abridged version, which is never as satisfactory, it held up well apart from the narration. Overall the narration was alright, however the start was obscured very slightly by some music. It only lasted a short while but was un-necessary and highly annoying. And although I had no major issues with the narrator, the narration also felt rushed at time.

What other book might you compare Cold Hit to, and why?

In a similar vein to Kathy Reichs crime novels simply because of personal knowledge by the author of the subject matter, and both sets of novels contain a strong female lead. If you like one, I suspect you might like the other.

Have you listened to any of Allison Janney’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Never listened to this narrator before, and found she was clear in tone, and managed to put in good inflections to separate the books various characters. Just a shame the narrative felt so rushed at times.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes.

Good for an abridged version but performance lacks
