Summary
The assault on Earth was thwarted by the destruction of the aliens' seed ship, but with Mars still under Lanky control, survivors work frantically to rebuild fighting capacity and shore up planetary defenses. The introspection of the main character is especially good in this one as he starts to grapple with what it really means to be a leader.
I'm not one for carrying much about relationships in stories, especially ones like this, but Grayson's relationship with Halley serves as a real anchor point throughout the whole series and from this one on I really started to care what happens between them.
I've moaned about Luke Daniel's performance in the previous books as his limited repertoire of voices just felt completely out of place for a serious sci fi tale like this. His higher pitched male voice was particularly grinding, especially when he gave it to Chief Kofka in the 2nd book! he also switched around voices in book 3 which grated badly with me. Credit where it's due though, Daniel's has brought a much more mature performance in this book and dropped most of the silly ones while also bringing some good accent work.
Huge improvement overall from a narration point of view.

Oh, yes. I intend to revisit the whole series one dayWhat does Luke Daniels bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Although I also have the written books, I highly recommend listening to the audio version with narrator Luke Daniels becoming the voice of Andrew Grayson, the soldier whose life we follow.Any additional comments?
>This is the fourth book in the excellent Frontlines series by Marko Kloos and as that name suggests, we are again taken to the very heart of the battle. Seen from the point of view of one soldier whose progress we have followed since he first joined the military in Book I, we live through not just the fighting but also his hopes, fears and fun, what little there is of it.All of the series is well written with clear description and natural dialogue, and characterizations which make everything feel plausible and. real. Luke Daniels narration enhances this feeling - he is Andrew.
