About this listen

Grandeur and opulence are everything in the famed New Orleans Garden District where pets are family and no bling is too big. Opening Furry Godmother, pet boutique and organic treat bakery, is Lacy Marie Crocker's dream come true - until the glitter gun used to make her Shih Tzu tutus becomes a murder weapon - and Lacy becomes public enemy number one.

Now detective Jack Oliver is hounding Lacy, and her Furry Godmother investor wants out before his name is tarnished by association. To make matters worse, a string of jewel heists with suspicious ties to the murder case has New Orleans residents on edge. To save her dream, Lacy must take a stand, put her keen eyes to work, and unravel what really happened at her shop that night. But can Lacy sniff out the killer cat burglar in time to get her tail-raising designs on the catwalk?

Witty and whimsical, Cat Got Your Diamonds, the first in a new cozy series by Julie Chase, will be the cat's meow for fans of Rita Mae Brown and Miranda James.

This was a fun cozy mystery and a series I will be visiting again. The only disappointment was I thought with a series called Kitty Couture Mysteries, animals would play a greater role in the story, instead no funny antics from the pets just there owners. Don't get me wrong in did enjoy it, I just thought we would get lots of pet mishaps and we didn't. The characters were good though, if a little quirky and unusual (leg warmers for llamas). I guess it's more of an American thing dressing up pets or a rich thing, sounds fun and cute but I am so not trying it on my cat. I liked how the characters interacted with each other, from the strained relationship between mother and daughter, to the want to be boyfriends meddling, even the detective who doesn't knew if he wants to lock her up or kiss her , all adds drama and entertainment to the story. The mystery was good, I had guessed who the killer was but it was still a lot of fun listening the characters figure it out and there was a few twists so I wasn't totally right. I am off to start book two.
Lacy returns to New Orleans under a mountain of debt after dropping out of law school and instead studying fashion but she is determined to do it on her own without help from her rich parents. So she finds a businessman to back her with the opening of her shop Furry Godmother, pet boutique and organic treat bakery. Designing clothes for pets is her dream job and New Orleans with all there festivals the perfect place. The only problem is somebody is robbing jewerly stores in the area. When the thief tries it with Lacy's shop, she is ready for him and zaps him with a glitter gun and runs. When she returns with the police it is to find him dead. The police start to treat her as the suspect and she knows it's only a matter of time before she is arrested, unless she finds the killer. With the police taking a hard look at her, her investor pulls out and her dream of owning her own shop is in trouble. Unless she can convince her customers she isn't to blame. When her shop is broken into she is surprised when everybody rallies around her to help, they might be a way to stay in business after all. If she can figure out if the death and the break in are connected and if so what the killer was looking for first. And what did the dead man wanted in her shop in the first place.
I liked the narrator. She did some good voices which helped to bring the story to life.

Sparkly
