Summary

Are you stuck inside your own head? Learn how to stop obsessing and start really living with this breakthrough guide.

In today's world, it's easy to get stuck in an endless loop of negative thoughts. And if you're like many people, you've probably tried to think your way out of one of these thought cycles, throwing more thoughts on the pile until you're left with an out-of-control bonfire of anxiety, self-criticism, resentment, catastrophizing, and hopelessness. Attempting to stop your thoughts or replace them with positive ones is like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. Inevitably, you drown in a sea of unhappiness. Has it ever worked for you? If the answer is "no," it's probably time to find a real solution.

In Can't Stop Thinking, psychotherapist and spiritual counselor Nancy Colier offers the key to breaking free from the repetitive and obsessive thinking that is causing your stress, anxiety, worry, and unhappiness: change your relationship with your thoughts. Using a powerful blend of mindfulness and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), you'll learn how to surrender your thinking mind, and end repetitive thinking, rumination, and self-criticism—freeing you up to discover a life of self-compassion, presence, peace, and joy.©2021 Nancy Colier

The first half of the book was more interesting for me than the second one. I liked the explanation and examples of how our mind works and the exercises. However at some points I didn't agree with the point of view of the author eg other people live in their own reality and you can't control them, however if their "reality" hurts other people, it doesn't mean that I have to go along with it and ignore them because that's just their own reality. But in general it is an empowering book and the narrator was good as well.

Empowering book with good information

So much wealth in here for us sufferers. So very grateful for being guided through and to be able to better understand the wicked thoughts and the games they play.

Fascinating Listen

Have been trying mindfulness and meditation for the last few years and this adds immense value to the practice. Highly recommended for “not sweating the small stuff” (or any stuff if you can - brings the Serenity Prayer” to life even if you’re not religious.

Food for Thought!

The ideas were so well explained, so clearly and precisely. I've read books about disidentifying with thoughts before, but this one really got through to me.

Such perceptive observations!

She makes an assumption about Identity and then attacks what most people see as defining who they are. For example she says we are not our thoughts with all of the observer of our thoughts that doesn’t seem to consider that we are in fact both, why have such a binary approach to human identity. That being said it’s a good book and, I hope she forgives me saying this, make me think.

A very binary approach to life
