Summary
Ella Baker is tired of being an afterthought in her own life. First, her fiancée dumps her six days before the wedding. Then her family jets off on a world tour—without her. And just when she thinks it can’t get worse, her longtime employer forgets to lay her off...That is, until now. It’s time for a reinvention, starting with something totally out of character: joining a book club. Thank God for her best friend, Rachel, who’s always there with popcorn and wine. But when a kiss from a smart, gorgeous, and maddeningly irresistible book club member leaves Ella breathless, she’s stunned to learn the woman who just turned her world upside down is the very ex who broke Rachel’s heart.
Max Wyler doesn’t believe in forever. As a divorce mediator, she’s built a career on helping people walk away amicably. The book club is just an escape—until new member Ella Baker arrives, all sunshine and sass, making Max question everything she thought she knew about love. There’s just one problem: Ella’s best friend is Max’s worst mistake. Which means those pretty blue eyes? Completely off-limits.
Or at least, they should be.

I'm a little pile of mush... this book made me want to join The Weepers book club. I need these people in my life, for real!
Yes, I finished it in one sitting, yes I would absolutely do it again!
Not only is this story full of heart, charm and humour, it also beautifully portrays the internal struggle of self-worth, of being 'good enough', and not living as an after-thought in your own life.
Now, 'Best friends' Ex' can be tricky territory, what with loyalty to said 'best friend', and undeniable attraction to said 'Ex's' friend...but Melissa Brayden absolutely nailed it!
The chemistry between Ella and Max is immediate, and that didn't change once they knew the truth.
Ella- Graphic designer and sugary-cereal enthusiast, is an afterthought in her own life. Dumped by her fiancé 6 days before the wedding. Left behind by her family as they jet off on a world tour, and now, her long-term employer FORGETS to lay her off... Awkward.
Needless to say, she's not feeling the love. So when her best friend Rachel invites her to move in with her, start over in a new place, with a new community, new everything... she finally takes the leap.
So when she meets the dangerously smart and irresistible woman at Weepers Book Club... what's a girl to do?
Max Wyler, a divorce meditator, has built a career on helping people walk away from their relationships amicably. A master at keeping things on track, she has back up plans for her plans. Tried and true.
The Weepers book club is just an escape. Max doesn't believe in forever. She even has a hard time believing in some of the romance novels they devour on a weekly basis... until a new member arrives, all sass, making Max question everything she thought she knew about love.
It's only after they share a kiss, and they decide to meet up again that they realise they fucked up!
Ella, is her nightmare ex's best friend.
Every character in this story holds something special, whether its the grounding welcome of Stevie and the Weepers, Doug, the grumpy Gramps type who runs the book store, or even Max's parents, everyone's role is crucial.
By the end of the book, my heart was so full, I could have cried. Also, drunk Stevie gave me life. I need her to be my friend.
And of course, Quinn Riley's performance made this wonderful story all the more enjoyable. I will absolutely re-listen. The range of fun, sarcastic banter, utter hurt and the ability to make me grin like a fucking idiot does not go unnoticed.
No skipping allowed, you don't want to miss this.
