He always knew: when his life came tumbling down, it would occur in public.

Campbell Flynn is fuelled by an appetite for wealth and admiration, controversy and novelty. An art historian and celebrity pundit, he has enjoyed a charmed career rubbing shoulders with oligarchs and aristocrats, fashion designers and fine artists, at ease with the highbrow and the mainstream.

Only now, the world is changing. Over the course of an incendiary year a web of secrets and crimes will be revealed, and Campbell Flynn may not be able to protect himself from the shattering exposure of all his privilege really involves.

An engrossing and masterful work of fiction and a critique of contemporary Britain, the establishment that underpins it, and inequalities that haunt the modern world.
I was throughly engaged from the start by the host of convincing and compelling characters and the rollercoaster ride Andrew O’Hagan takes us on, through inter-connected worlds of politics, business, academia, and organised crime. Caledonian Road- at times hilarious, shocking, and also very sad- is brought to life by the stunning performance of narrator, Michael Abubakar. Highly recommended.

A compelling and engrossing novel

Andrew O’Hagan is a genius! He twists and turns these characters but always within the bounds of reality. I feel as if I’ve met every single one of them. Michael Abubakar is a superb reader who colours every character perfectly. This is the must read of 2024!!

The best book of 2024

Brilliant narrated, this is a tale that has shades of Dickens. Stories from all parts of society collide. The central character is a mirror man, desperately trying to reflect and refract all he sees. But ultimately he is just part of the furniture, like most of us.

Epic saga of liberal angst & folly

witty, engaging with a breadth of detailed and believable characters who play out their endeavours for good or ill. An excellent description of post pandemic London and the social strata of our society.

excellent and brilliantly narrated

An absolute tour de force by Andrew O'Hagan, handling a myriad of characters from all backgrounds with ease. And Michael Abubakar's narration, in managing all of them, is honestly extraordinary.
