About this listen

This audiobook features an exciting exclusive interview with Philippa Gregory and narrator Gemma Whelan, star of Game of Thrones

Jane Boleyn watches from the shadows of the Tudor court. Where nothing is more powerful than a secret – or more deadly.

As the Boleyns rise, Jane rises with them. But the king’s love is a fickle thing. And when the royal gaze turns elsewhere, Jane uses the only weapon she has: her voice.

To survive in this dazzling, dangerous world she has mastered many masks: loving wife, devoted sister, and obedient spy. Now she must step out of the shadows.

She might outlive her rivals. She might know the court’s darkest secrets. But power rests on the edge of a tyrant king’s sword. Where will it fall next?

Philippa Gregory brings the Boleyn traitor into the light in an explosive story of one woman’s survival in the treacherous heart of the Tudor court.

Philippa Gregory never disappoints, and I thoroughly enjoyed this account of a woman who has not before been focused upon so directly.

Well worth the wait

I found from my favourite podcast (after dark) my favourite author had a new book and devoured it. what i love about Phillipas writing is you see both the evolutions of her research and stance of the individual characters develop through each book, keeping the "tudor theme" fresh and riveting. I love that with each book even the potential villainous characters have depth and through the lens she creates you can understand the complexities and psychological personalities of why these people made the decisions and actions. I love having more books coming out that are less from the typical "main characters" of the time. It gives the topic a new and different level of depth and creates a modern understanding of the fragile and delicate Web of intricacies required to keep the machine of court moving. fantastic writing as always.

Not a "tudor repeat"

This familiar story is well told, with unexpected twists and with the increasingly dangerous tyrant Henry lurking in the background. I admit to struggling with finding the time to read the paper versions of Philippa's books, but here the narration really brings the story alive (while I commute, do the chores etc). Kitty Howard's voice as a Tudor valley girl is superb. The recording includes bonuses including an interview between the narrator and Philippa.

Excellent narration

Not sure about the person chosen to narrate the book. Some pronunciations of the Tudor surnames were totally incorrect!

Excellent book- intriguing take on a well-knownn character

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I felt like a fly on g to the wall watching everything that went on. I got quite emotional at times at the stupidity of Queen Katherine and Francis Dereham. The Tudor court must have been exhausting, living on your nerves. I thought the perspective was new and the book was very hard to put down. I gave up a whole weekend to read it. Fabulous.

Enjoyable story
