A nice story and evidence of Turks and Greeks living amongst each other in harmony before Greece’s agenda and Turkey’s intervention to protect its people.

Good listen overall can do with being a bit louder on sound.

Review of Bitter Lemons of Cyprus by Lawrence Durrell

I recently listened to Bitter Lemons of Cyprus on Audible, and it was a fantastic storytelling experience. Lawrence Durrell’s writing is both poetic and insightful, capturing the beauty of Cyprus while also delving into the complex and often turbulent history of Greek and Turkish tensions over the island.

What stood out to me most was how Durrell intertwined personal anecdotes with historical events, making the book feel both intimate and informative. Before listening to this, I knew little about the struggle for Cyprus, and while I still have much to learn, this book provided a compelling introduction to the deep-rooted conflict and political turmoil.

Durrell’s perspective as an outsider living in Cyprus during this period adds another layer of intrigue. His descriptions of the land, people, and politics are vivid, and his storytelling makes even the most complex events accessible. There were still aspects of the history that I didn’t fully grasp, but that only fuels my desire to learn more.

Overall, Bitter Lemons of Cyprus is a beautifully written memoir that blends history, politics, and personal experience. If you're interested in Cyprus, colonial history, or just enjoy evocative storytelling, I highly recommend it.
