Long before the famous terraces, Incan engineers mastered a different kind of agricultural technology: waru waru, or raised fields. These elevated planting platforms, crisscrossed by canals, turned the floodplains of the Titicaca basin into some of the most productive farmland in the pre-Columbian Americas.
