In the late summer of 1997, I found myself at the Ellis estate sale in a small town called Baird's Hollow. The driveway was packed with cars, but the house felt empty. I picked up a bundle of handwritten recipes tied with a faded red ribbon. The first card was for something called 'Nana Lane's Comfort Cake.' The handwriting was elegant, old-fashioned. The second card smelled of vanilla, but the third was different — the ink was darker, the letters pressed hard into the paper. It listed an ingredient I didn't recognize: 'one teaspoon of sorrow.' I asked the woman running the sale about it. She said the recipe was from a woman who had lived in the house alone for forty years. She also said the woman's sister had died in the kitchen. I didn't buy the recipes. But I couldn't stop thinking about that teaspoon of sorrow. What it meant. What it tasted like. And who was supposed to eat it. #BairdsHollow #EllisEstateSale #handwrittenrecipe #NanaLanesComfortCake #teaspoonofsorrow #sisterdiedinthekitchen #1997 #lateAugust #oldfarmhouse #vanillasmell #darkink #fortyyearsalone #recipetakencare #Luna #FexingoHorror #HorrorPodcast #TheEstateSale #anthology Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
