About this listen

A thrilling instalment of John Connolly's popular Charlie Parker series.

He is our best hope.

He is our last hope.

On a lonely moor in the northeast of England, the body of a young woman is discovered near the site of a vanished church. In the south, a girl lies buried beneath a Saxon mound. To the southeast, the ruins of a priory hide a human skull.

Each is a sacrifice, a summons.

And something in the darkness has heard the call.

But another is coming: Parker the hunter, the avenger. From the forests of Maine to the deserts of the Mexican border, from the canals of Amsterdam to the streets of London, he will track those who would cast this world into darkness.

Parker fears no evil.

But evil fears him....

I love J Connolly and, until now, I love Jeff Harding narrating But Mr Harding is struggling so much with the Geordie/Northumbria accent it is painful to listen. It’s so bad that it distracts from the story. Sorry but this audio is a fail because of this.

Again an exceptional book and again read so well. I cannot begin to understand how he mange to write this book, the research, and technical detail alone, yet also produces a story and humour!
I bow to genius thank

I thought the story had so many different layers and could possibly be the author’s best. It is not the usual Parker story but I was totally hooked. I really cared about some of the characters and I’m glad I ignored some reviews. I admit the Geordie accent was not great but Jeff Harding is so good I can certainly forgive this.

Better than some reviews suggest
