Summary

Enter the world of the Pendleton: The original owner became a recluse - and was rumored to be more than half mad - after his wife and two children were kidnapped in 1896 and never found. The second owner suffered a worse tragedy in 1935, when his house manager murdered him, his family, and the entire live-in staff....

Craftsmen and laborers working on renovations disappear or go mad....

For years, the Pendleton is a happy place, until a bad turn comes again....

Voices in unknown languages are heard in deserted rooms, everywhere and nowhere....

Disturbing shadows move along walls but have no source....

Images on security monitors show strange places that exist nowhere in the building or its grounds....

A young boy talks of an imaginary playmate - who turns out to be terrifyingly real....

A figure like a man but clearly inhuman is glimpsed in the courtyard gardens at night and in other locales, perhaps a hoaxer of some kind, seemingly oblivious of those who see it - until it suddenly takes an interest in one of them....

I enjoy koontz books and i have read most of his work . I was disapointed in this story . I felt the plot became very complicated and over discriptive . It lost a lot of the suspence by jumping from character to character.

over all if you like the syfi koontz then this is for you ..

Lost its way

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes as I was sewing whilst listening - had I just been listening I'd have said no!!

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The little autistic girl. The fact it only had one setting.

What does Peter Berkrot bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

He reads it so I can do other things at the same time!!

If this book were a film would you go see it?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

Another book where I got to the end and thought "is that it?!!"

Not a patch on my favourite Dean Koontz (Watchers).

Mediocre.

Excellent, a little confusing in parts, but just great to listen to and wish it to go on...

Typical DK book. Awful beginning. Slow to develop characters. Builds well and ends better. Ruined by rasping annoying dreadful narration. I say it every time. Narration is very subjective. Some may love it but it’s so nasal I am really not sure I can finish this book. Ruined it for me. Yet again. When will audible get some decent narration.

Good quite unique story
